Practitioner Certification

Every organisation is running two buildings.
We train the engineers who can read both.

The Infracultural programme certifies practitioners to diagnose, repair, and maintain the hidden structure that actually runs an organisation — the beliefs, networks, and energy the org chart never shows.

The problem

Good leaders keep pushing on a wall they can't see.

Every organisation runs two operations at once: its official life — the values, the strategy deck, the org chart — and its infraculture, the accumulated history, beliefs, and relationships that actually generate behaviour. The infraculture produces the surface. Not the other way round. Most change work never reaches it, which is why so much of it gets quietly absorbed.

01 — ABSORBED

Initiatives disappear without a trace

Programmes launch, get resourced, get formally completed — and the deeper logic underneath never moves. The organisation learns that change is a performance to be endured.

02 — CORRODED

Trust thins before anyone notices

Trust doesn't break in a single event. It corrodes continuously under ordinary conditions, staying handsome on the surface long after the material underneath is compromised.

03 — PERFORMED

The culture on the wall isn't the culture in the room

Values statements, speak-up channels, and wellbeing programmes are cultural artefacts. What happens when someone actually uses them is the cultural condition — and the two are rarely the same thing.

Two certificates

From reading the building to repairing it.

The programme runs in two tiers. Foundation builds the trained perception every practitioner needs. Practitioner turns that perception into the capability to diagnose, repair, and maintain a real organisation — assessed through supervised practice, not exams.

TIER 01

Infracultural Literacy Certificate

The Foundation programme. Learn to see the hidden structure before you ever try to change it.

  • 01See the two organisations running at once, and read the gap between them as structure, not failure.
  • 02Trace how an infraculture forms — through formative events, silent accretion, and deliberate intention.
  • 03Run the core diagnostic toolkit: arrival, meeting, story, and energy audits, plus the genuinely open question.
  • 04Map the informal network — switches, gatekeepers, live and dead cables, dead zones.
  • 05Read the energy economy: voltage, current, resistance, and the real physics of burnout.
  • 06Name the four ways infracultures fail — and complete the belief framework that repair depends on.

Full curriculum

Thirteen modules. One coherent building.

Every module builds on the last — the repair sequence follows the diagnosis, and the diagnosis follows the reading. Nothing is optional filler; each sheet does a specific job in the set.

Foundation — Infracultural Literacy Certificate
F—01
The Two Organisations
Official life vs. infraculture, the gap, absorption, and the infracultural turn.
F—02
How Infracultures Form
Archaeology, accretion, and intention — and why the infraculture is never irrational.
F—03
Reading the Building
The diagnostic toolkit: arrival, meeting, and story audits, the energy map, the open question.
F—04
The Informal Network
Switches, routers, gatekeepers; live, ghost, and cut cables; dead zones; institutional memory.
F—05
The Energy Economy
Voltage, current, resistance; burnout as infrastructure failure; net energy leadership.
F—06
What Goes Wrong
Technical debt, trust corrosion, security theatre, burnout — and the two-axis belief frame.
Practitioner — Infracultural Engineer Certificate
P—01
The Infracultural Audit
Integrating the toolkit into one sequenced methodology; producing the infracultural map.
P—02
Load-Bearing and Fossil Beliefs
Surfacing foundational assumptions and changing them with the scaffolding principle.
P—03
Network Repair
Rewiring cut and ghost cables, protecting nodes, transferring institutional memory.
P—04
Trust Repair
Reversing corrosion through changed conditions and behavioural consistency.
P—05
Restoring the Power Supply
Differentiated repair for depletion, surge, and fault outages.
P—06
Infracultural Maintenance
Genuine vs. ritual maintenance, and leadership as infrastructure.
P—07
Infracultural Intervention
Capstone: designing and delivering change that holds, on a real organisation.

Who this is for

Built for people who already work inside organisations, professionally.

This isn't a general leadership course. It's a technical credential for people whose work depends on reading what an organisation is actually doing, not what it says it's doing.

→ Organisational psychologists & OD consultants

A structured methodology and shared vocabulary for diagnostic work you're likely already doing intuitively.

→ Executive & leadership coaches

A way to read the system around your client, not just the client — and to coach leadership as infrastructure.

→ Internal HR & culture teams

Tools to tell genuine cultural health from security theatre, and to build maintenance that actually holds.

→ Independent change & transformation consultants

A sequencing discipline for interventions that survive contact with the organisation they're meant to change.

Ian McLaren Wallace

Organisational Psychologist · Scotland, UK

Ian is an independent organisational psychologist, author, and developer working under the Perceptual Press umbrella. His academic work on organisational and neuroperceptual psychology appears in Theory & Psychology, and his books on organisational life and leadership form the theoretical spine of this programme. The Infracultural framework draws on decades of direct fieldwork inside organisations — diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the structures the org chart never shows.

Questions

Before you apply

Do I need a psychology or OD background?

No formal qualification is required. What matters is that you already work inside organisations in some professional capacity — coaching, consulting, HR, leadership, or internal culture work — and want a structured method for reading and repairing what you're already sensing.

Can I take the Practitioner tier without Foundation?

Foundation is recommended before Practitioner, since the diagnostic toolkit it builds is assumed throughout the repair modules. If you can demonstrate equivalent experience, speak to us before applying.

What does "supervised practicum" actually involve?

From Practitioner Module 1 onward, you conduct real diagnostic and repair work on an organisation you have genuine access to, documented and reviewed with a supervisor. The capstone module produces a complete, real intervention design.

How is each module delivered?

Every module has three components: a full written lesson, a narrated audio/video walkthrough, and a workbook that structures your fieldwork or supervised practicum. You can read, listen, or work through the exercises, in whatever order suits you.

What do I hold at the end of each tier?

Foundation completion earns the Infracultural Literacy Certificate. Completing all seven Practitioner modules plus the supervised audit and intervention earns the Infracultural Engineer Certificate — the programme's flagship credential.

Applications

Learn to read the building. Then learn to fix it.

Cohorts for both certificates open on a rolling basis. Tell us where you're starting from, and we'll point you to the right tier.
